Kilwa Kisiwani
Departure from Kilwa Masoko harbour on a Dhow, the traditional sailing boat or on a motor boat. Approximately 30 minutes crossing to go on Kilwa Kisiwani Island.
Discovering the main historic sites of the island, the mosque, Malindi Cemetery, the Gereza fortress, the Great Mosque and the tombs of Kilwa Sultans... These monuments cover more than 5 centuries of history. They allow understanding the importance of this trading post when it was at its peak. If you take this visit, you will also cross a part of the village where you will discover the lifestyle of the inhabitants of Kisiwani today.


Songo Mnara Island
Departure from Kilwa Masoko harbour, approximately 1 hour crossing to go on Songo Mnara Island with a motor boat.
Songo Mnara Island is an archaeological site of prime importance to understand the Swahili culture. The landscape is marked with a series of impressive ruins dating back to the 10th century AD when it was of a prominent stone town, with exceptional architectural details. Songo Mnara is now a wild island, there are only some seasonal fishermen villages.
